Laut Bercerita or The Sea Speaks His Name is a short film adapted from Leila S. Chudori’s 2017 novel. The film follows Biru Laut, a student and activist in Jakarta, abducted in March 1998 by four unidentified men. Blindfolded and beaten, he joins other political activists, enduring months of torture as captors seek information about the country’s student and political movements’ leaders. At home, Laut’s family prepares a special meal, anticipating his return, but he doesn’t appear. The film, presented in Bahasa Indonesia with English subtitles, poignantly explores political activism and personal sacrifice.

Directed by Pritagita Arianegara and produced by Gita Fara and Wisnu Darmawan, it debuted alongside the novel on 12 December 12 2017, in Institut Français d’Indonésie (IFI) Jakarta.

Presented in Indonesian with English subtitles.

Laut Bercerita atau The Sea Speaks His Name merupakan sebuah film pendek yang disadur dari novel Leila S. Chudori tahun 2017. Film ini mengikuti perjalanan Biru Laut, seorang mahasiswa dan aktivis di Jakarta, yang diculik pada Maret 1998 oleh empat lelaki tak dikenal. Dipukuli dalam keadaan mata tertutup, ia menjadi salah satu dari berbagai aktivis politik lainnya yang didera penyiksaan selama delapan bulan oleh para penculiknya, yang berusaha mencari keterangan tentang siapa gerangan yang memimpin pergerakan mahasiswa dan politik negeri tersebut. Di rumah, keluarga Laut selalu menyiapkan hidangan istimewa, menantikan Laut kembali, namun ia tidak kunjung muncul. Film ini, disajikan dalam bahasa Indonesia dengan subtitel bahasa Inggris, dengan pedih mendalami aktivisme politik dan pengorbanan pribadi.

Disutradarai oleh Pritagita Arianegara dan diproduksi oleh Gita Fara dan Wisnu Darmawan, film ini tayang perdana di acara peluncuran novel yang sama pada 12 Desember 2017, di Institut Français d’Indonésie (IFI) Jakarta.

Disajikan dalam bahasa Indonesia dengan subtitel bahasa Inggris.
