Tove is a 2020 Finnish biographical film centered on the life of Tove Jansson, a Swedish-speaking Finnish author and illustrator. Jansson is renowned for her creation of the cherished Moomins children’s books, which feature an endearing troll family resembling hippopotami and draw inspiration from her own life and family. As a spirited bisexual artist, she approached life as a grand adventure. Alma Poysti brings the irrepressible title character to life in this vibrant biographical portrayal, offering a glimpse into the remarkable breadth of Jansson’s life, including her passionate affair with Vivica, a wealthy mayor’s daughter. Together, they collaborate on a play that brings the Moomins to life.

Tove received acclaim from critics and was Finland’s entry for the Best International Feature Film category at the 93rd Academy Awards, although it ultimately did not secure a nomination.

Tove adalah film biografis produksi sineas Finlandia tahun 2020, berpusat pada kehidupan Tove jansson, seorang penulis dan ilustrator Finlandia yang bicara bahasa Swedia. Jansson dikenal untuk karyanya, serial buku anak-anak Moomins yang sangat digemari, yang menampilkan sebuah keluarga troll yang manis, yang bentukya menyerupai kuda nil, yang terinspirasi oleh kehidupan pribadi sekaligus keluarganya. Sebagai seorang seniman biseksual yang bersemangat, ia memandang hidup sebagai sebuah petualangan akbar. Alma Poysti memberi nyawa kepada tokoh utama yang sulit dikekang ini melalui sebuah penggambaran biografis yang semarak, membantu para penonton mengintip kedalam hidup Jansson, temasuk kisah cintanya yang menggebu-gebu dengan Vivica, seorang puteri dari gubernur yang kaya. Bersama, mereka berkolaborasi memuat pertunjukan drama yang menghidupkan tokoh-tokoh Moomins.

Tove mendapatkan penghargaan dari kritikus film dan merupakan karya yang dimasukkan Finlandia untuk kategori Best International Feature Film di Academy Awards, meskipun pada akhirnya tidak masuk nominasi.
