Edward Wong is an American journalist and diplomatic correspondent for The New York Times (NYT). He is the author of At the Edge of Empire: A Family’s Reckoning with China, which was awarded the inaugural Baifang Schell Book Prize from the Asia Society in New York and was shortlisted for the Orwell Prize in the U.K. It was named by The Washington Post as a top non-fiction book of 2024. Edward has reported for the NYT for 27 years, serving for 13 of those as a correspondent and bureau chief in China and Iraq. He was a Nieman Fellow at Harvard University and has been a visiting professor at Princeton University and U.C. Berkeley. He holds an honorary doctorate from Middlebury Language Schools.

Zhou Bo is a Senior Fellow at the Center for International Security and Strategy at Tsinghua University, where he focuses on international security, China’s foreign policy, and military diplomacy. A retired Senior Colonel in the People’s Liberation Army, he served in a range of senior roles within the Ministry of National Defense, including as Deputy Director General of the West Asia and Africa Bureau, Defense Attaché to Namibia, and Director of the Centre for Security Cooperation. He has published widely in leading international outlets such as Foreign Affairs, The New York Times, The Financial Times, and The Economist, and is a frequent speaker at global security forums including the Shangri-La Dialogue and the Munich Security Conference. His most recent book, Should the World Fear China?, was published in 2025 by Hurst/Oxford and received international media coverage.
