Tash Aw was born in Taiwan and grew up in Kuala Lumpur before moving to England in his teens. He worked as a lawyer for four years in London before he studied Creative Writing at the University of East Anglia. His first novel, The Harmony Silk Factory, won the 2005 Whitbread First Novel Award and the Commonwealth Writers Prize. His short fiction work, Sail, won the O. Henry Prize in 2013. His latest work, Fourth Estate, was published in 2019.
