Purbo Asmoro, dhalang (shadow puppet master), is able to trace his lineage back to at least six generations of Javanese dhalang. He holds a Master’s Degree in Performance Art from Gadjah Mada University and is a senior faculty member at Institute of Indonesian Arts in Solo (ISI Surakarta). Purbo Asmoro divides his time between teaching and an active performing career. He has both a dedicated, academic following and a broad-based, enthusiastic community of fans across Java. He is particularly well-known for his dramatic innovations to all-night wayang, while at the same time, he is highly respectful of and well-versed in the classical tradition.

Purbo Asmoro adalah seorang dalang wayang kulit, yang menjadi generasi ke enam dalang Jawa. Ia meraih gelar Magister Seni Pertunjukan dari Universitas Gadjah Mada dan merupakan staf pengajar senior di Institut Seni Indonesia di Solo (ISI Surakarta). Purbo Asmoro membagi waktunya antara mengajar dan karir pertunjukan yang aktif. Ia memiliki pengikut yang berdedikasi, akademis, dan komunitas penggemar yang luas dan antusias di seluruh Jawa. Ia sangat terkenal karena inovasi dramatisnya pada pertunjukan wayang sepanjang malam, sementara pada saat yang sama ia sangat menghormati dan berpengalaman dalam seni tradisi.
