Submission Guidelines

Please read the following Submission Guidelines before submitting your book.

GENRES

Ubud Writers and Readers Festival will feature works from various genres, including fiction, non-fiction, poetry, prose, novels, satire, and more.

PUBLICATION DATE

Please note that to be eligible, books must be available for sale by 18 September 2023 to be considered for Ubud Writers & Readers Festival’s 20th Anniversary Edition.

SUCCESSFUL ADMISSION FEES

If successful, you will be required to pay an admission fee of AUD 1,000 for international applicants orIDR 3,250,000 for Indonesian citizens by 12 May 2023. Evidence of payment may be required.

SUBMISSION DEADLINE

Applications must be submitted by 31 March 2023 for consideration. We are unable to consider late submissions.

AGENTS AND REPRESENTATIVES

Agents and author representatives are encouraged to submit if they have the author’s consent.

CO-AUTHORS

If several authors wish to participate, please submit the details of each author, including separate bios.

BOOK SALES

Ubud Writers & Readers Festival works closely with bookshop partners to sell books at the festival. Should your application be successful, our bookshop partners will endeavour to source and stock your book/s for the festival. Where they are unable to do so, it is the responsibility of the successful applicant to supply their book/s to our bookshop partners for sale on consignment during the festival. 

PROMOTION AND PUBLICITY

Book Launch program participants will be promoted via the UWRF website and across UWRF social media during our sales campaign. This includes:

• 1 x event listing on the UWRF website
• 1 x social media post

Additional promotional activity is at the discretion of UWRF and cannot be guaranteed. We strongly encourage participants to promote their Book Launch event via their own channels after the events have been announced.

FORMER APPLICANTS

In order to encourage diversity of Festival offerings, preference is given to authors who did not participate in the prior year’s Festival.

TRAVEL EXPENSES

Unless otherwise discussed in advance, speakers must commit to assuming the costs of their Festival participation if they are invited to take part, including travel and lodging.

DECISIONS

Application notifications will be provided by 21 April 2023.
