I Made Bandem is a distinguished ethnomusicologist, dancer, and scholar, widely regarded as one of Bali’s most influential cultural thinkers. He has authored several seminal works on Balinese dance and gamelan music. Recently, Bandem published Gong & Palegongan: The Historical and Aesthetic Legacy of Mpu Ageng I Gusti Putu Made Geria, as well as Masks of Bali: Between Heaven & Hell, a collaboration with Bruce W. Carpenter and photographer Doddy Obenk. In recognition of his achievements and lifelong dedication to the arts, Bandem has received numerous prestigious honors, including the International UNESCO Music Council Award, the Habibie Award, the Koizumi Fumio Prize, the Cultural Medal of the Republic of Indonesia, and The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon from the Emperor of Japan. He also served as Rector of the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta from 1997 to 2006.

I Made Bandem adalah seorang etnomusikolog, penari, dan cendekiawan ternama, yang dikenal sebagai salah satu pemikir budaya paling berpengaruh di Bali. Ia telah menulis sejumlah karya penting tentang tari Bali dan musik gamelan. Baru-baru ini, Bandem menerbitkan Gong & Palegongan: The Historical and Aesthetic Legacy of Mpu Ageng I Gusti Putu Made Geria (Gong & Palegongan: Warisan Sejarah dan Estetika Mpu Ageng I Gusti Putu Made Geria) serta Masks of Bali: Between Heaven & Hell (Topeng-topeng Bali: Antara Surga dan Neraka), sebuah kolaborasi dengan Bruce W. Carpenter dan fotografer Doddy Obenk. Atas prestasi dan dedikasinya seumur hidup terhadap seni, Bandem telah meraih berbagai penghargaan bergengsi, di antaranya International UNESCO Music Council Award, Habibie Award, Koizumi Fumio Prize, Medali Kebudayaan Republik Indonesia, serta The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon dari Kaisar Jepang. Ia juga pernah menjabat sebagai Rektor Institut Seni Indonesia (ISI) Yogyakarta pada 1997–2006.
