Plaza Tjok Gde Agung Sukawati, Ubud Art Market

In the shadow of colonial expansion across the Pacific, Tjokorda Gde Agung and Tjokorda Gde Raka Sukawati opened Ubud's palace doors to Western artists and intellectuals throughout the 1920s and 30s. From their small village in Bali's foothills, the brothers followed different yet complementary paths. Tjokorda Raka worked in administration within the Dutch colonial government while Tjokorda Gde Agung focused on preserving local traditions and community leadership.

Today, their royal legacy raises interesting questions. Were they simply generous hosts or did their actions help shape the dramatic changes in Bali that followed? On this walking tour, we will visit both the Puri Saren and Puri Kantor, where we will discuss how these princes navigated colonial power structures while advancing local interests. Join us to discover how these brothers helped transform the Ubud we see today, a place where the past and present continue to meet in unexpected ways.

Price includes coffee break and snacks. Meeting point at Plaza Tjok Gde Agung Sukawati, Ubud Art Market.

Kini, warisan mereka menimbulkan pertanyaan menarik.
