“Magic incarnate”: relive the excitement with our UWRF16 video

Posted: 21 December 2016

From October 26–30 2016, Bali’s cultural capital was transformed by the 13th annual Ubud Writers & Readers Festival.

With 200+ events, 170+ writers and speakers, and audiences of over 30,000 from across Bali, Indonesia, and the globe, the Festival’s five-day program featured in-depth discussions, lively panel debates, literary lunches, skill-sharpening workshops, poetry slams, music and arts performances, films, markets, meditation and more!

We were delighted to welcome guests and audiences from over 28 countries, including just over half of you (51%) who came to the UWRF for the very first time! Nearly all of you (99%) said you’d recommend the UWRF to family and friends — thank you!

Our 2016 video celebrates the Festival, and reflects on the meaning of this year’s theme — the Hindu philosophy Tat Tvam Asi, or ‘I am you, you are me’.

Purposefully prismatic and expansive in nature, the theme encouraged meaningful engagement on local and global issues, and provided a mandate to guests and audiences alike to go beneath the surface, and open up the in-depth dialogue and cross-cultural conversation for which the Festival is renowned.

“Ubud Writers & Readers Festival is magic incarnate.” — Tanya Evanson, UWRF 2016 Speaker

“The most pleasant, stimulating and inspiring writers festival I have been to.” — Tim Baker, UWRF 2016 Speaker

Thank you to our wonderful audiences, partners and guests for the support in 2016, and we look forward to welcoming you back in 2017.
