Velia Vadal is a Colombian writer who loves the sea and shared readings. Her first book, Aguas de Estuario (Estuary Waters), is a work of fiction about a woman moving towards happiness in the black community on Colombia’s Pacific coast and won an inaugural publication grant for Afro-Colombian authors from the Colombian Ministry of Culture. She was recognized on the BBC 100 Women 2022 list of 100 inspiring and influential women from around the world. She also organizes the Chocó reading and writing festival, which views literature as a tool to fight inequality and racism and receives thousands of guests every year. A social entrepreneur and journalist, she is also the Founder of Motete, an organization that promotes reading and literacy.

Velia Vadal adalah penulis Kolombia yang mencintai lautan dan membaca bersama. Buku pertamanya, Aguas de Estuario (Estuary Waters), adalah karya fiksi tentang perempuan yang ingin mencari kebahagiaan dalam komunitas kulit hitam di pesisir Pasifik Kolombia dan memenangkan hibah penerbitan perdana untuk penulis Afro-Kolombia dari Menteri Kebudayaan Kolombia. Ia diakui dalam daftar BBC 100 Women 2022, memuat perempuan menginspirasi dan berpengaruh di seluruh dunia.
