Jean Couteau publishes extensively on a variety of genres and topics in French, English, and Indonesian. He writes art books, books, and columns on Balinese culture and is best known in Indonesia for his regular columns in the Sunday edition of Kompas. He obtained a Doctorate in art history and art in Bali from a French university in 1986. With Eric Buvelot, he recently published a new book, Bali 50 Years of Changes which uniquely presented as a conversation between Eric and Jean about socio-cultural evolutions that Bali has experienced in the last half-century.
