The Festival reflects on Indonesia’s Reformation period which began with the momentous fall of Suharto’s 32-year autocratic ‘New Order’ regime in May 1998 and the profound political, social, and cultural upheaval it ignited in the nation. Has ‘Reformasi’ resulted in a stronger democracy, improved economics, and a greater degree of freedom of speech? Luna Vidya, Putu Juli Sastrawan, and Hilmar Farid weigh in on what has changed and what hasn’t, twenty-five years later.
