In Audrey Magee’s beautifully crafted novel, The Colony, she explores character, language, culture, and place on a picturesque Irish island and the impact of political systems and imperialism. Magee discusses her inspiration for the novel, which has been longlisted for the Booker Prize, her writing process and offers a response to the festival’s theme Uniting Humanity by suggesting that to understand what unites us, we must first analyse what it is that tears us apart.
