Bataknese Erick Est relocated to Bali in the late 1990s to study fine art before pursuing filmmaking. He has directed almost 300 music videos and 20 short and feature-length films. His documentaries Janggan: Harvesting the Wind, about Bali’s dragon kite tradition, and Long Sa’an: The Journey Back, about Dayak tribe members returning to their birthplace, were well-received.

Erick Est yang berlatar belakang suku Batak, pindah ke Bali pada akhir tahun 90an untuk mempelajari seni rupa sebelum meniti karir sebagai sutradara. Ia telah menyutradarai lebih dari 300 video musik dan 20 film. Film dokumenter karyanya seperti Janggan: Harvesting the Wind, mengenai tradisi layangan di Bali, dan Long Sa’an: The Journey Back, mengenai kembalinya anggota Suku Dayak ke tempat kelahiran mereka, menerima banyak pujian.
