Create your own leather puppet characters

Do you like watching wayang shows? Do you want to know how the Dalang, the puppet master, works the puppets and makes them look so alive? Or how the characters are created? You will find the answers in this wayang workshop with the Balinese dalang Made Sidia. He will show us how to make the wayang puppets come to life, and how to create different voices for each of the characters in your story. Make your own wayang puppets, become a dalang in your own story. You can bring along your own boneka or wayang.

A good screenplay is the blueprint of any exceptional film. To write a screenplay is different than writing a short fiction or novel, you must try to visualize or ‘see’ the words for a visual medium. The key to writing a good screenplay is to focus on developing strong, interesting and memorable characters. A screenwriter must be someone who has a willingness to study people and to translate emotion to the page.

Orangutan mask making, storytelling and theatre

Watch a demonstration on making orangutan masks out of papier-mâché. After the demonstration you can work on your very own mask. You can paint it in festive and decorative ways to take home and play with (1 hour). Then listen to Captain Freddie talk about the adventures of orangutans living in the forest! ‘Friends of the Forest’ is a new SOS Orangutan Activity Book designed to create awareness about the lives of these wonderful endangered creatures. Afterwards you can learn about orangutans in a fun and educational way, by completing puzzles and colouring in. This exciting new publication is available in both English and Bahasa Indonesian. 12.30- 1.30 : An Orangutan Play! Discover even more about orangutans, such as building a nest, what kind of foods do they eat and how the mother and baby orangutans get along! This educational component will be incorporated into a performance by actors in colourful costumes and masks.

The Patient Stone – An Oral Telling of an Ancient Persian Tale

This is an ancient Persian story told to live musical accompaniment with a variety of different types of hand-made puppets. Find out what happens when a young girl is suddenly separated from her parents to find herself in a most enchanting garden. When she discovers the painful secret of the garden she must make a compassionate choice which leads her into an even more difficult situation. In this, only the truth can set her free. At the end of the story, children and adults can make their own puppets with based on ideas from the story. Puppet templates available.
