ANZ-UWRF 2011 will host this special event:

UNVEILING OF PLAQUE TO MARK OBAMA'S LITERARY LINK TO BALI

    Venue: Casa Luna Ubud

Date: Saturday Oct8th   Time: 14.30 hours

UBUD, Bali - It's well known that Barack Obama lived in Jakarta as a young child. But little known is that his last place of residency in Indonesia was Bali.

The year was 1993, when the future president of the U.S. spent several months living in Ubud.  Family members confirm that the then-newly wed used the solitude and spiritual environment to finish writing his autobiographical book "Dreams from My Father."  Many credit that literary effort as helping him win the White House in 2008.

To spotlight that brief but important period, Indonesia residents will unveil a bronze plaque on Saturday, October 8, at 2.30pm, in Ubud's Casa Luna restaurant.  It will later be placed in an appropriate public location that will serve to inform visitors of Obama's time in literary residency in Ubud.

Private donors, including TV Personality Dalton Tanonaka, contributed to the cost of the plaque.  Government leaders say it's unique tribute to a man whose life was shaped in part by his time in Indonesia.

Donors of the plaque in attendance: Dalton Tanonaka and Ron Mullers

Janet de Neefe: Founding Director of the Ubud Writers and Readers Festival

Ketut Suardana: The Chairman of the Saraswati Foundation
