Now in its 13th year, the Ubud Writers & Readers Festival is Southeast Asia’s leading festival of words and ideas.
Conde Nast Travel and Leisure called it: “One of the world’s great book festivals”. Harper’s Bazaar UK called it: “One of the six best literary festivals in the world” and Business Time said the Festival was “Southeast Asia’s most innovative literary festival”.
As part of the Yayasan Mudra Swari Saraswati we rely on the support of our partners.
By supporting the UWRF your brand or organisation will be associated with one of the world’s leading arts and literary festivals, as well as supporting the work of the Yayasan Mudra Swari Saraswati.
Supporting the UWRF will show your support of Indonesian culture and community, and engage with the Asia-Pacific community.
The 12th Ubud Writers & Readers Festival was a great success, with more than 165 artists, over 235 events, across 53 venues in Ubud. With audience attendance at 30,000, the Festival brought an estimated AU$1 million boost to the local economy. Now in its 13th year, the Festival relies on the support of corporate sponsors, foreign embassies/cultural institutions, media, professional writers and performers, the local Ubud community and the general public. In order to continue, we need your support more than ever.
In 2015 the Festival recorded an audience attendance upwards of 30,000 people, a growth of 14% from the previous year. The UWRF website amassed 139,609 visits to the site, 26% up from 2014. Through a strategic national and international media strategy, more than 220,000,000 read, listened or watched the UWRF celebrate it’s biggest year.
The 2016 program will feature hundreds of award-winning international authors, playwrights, poets, song writers, academics, journalists and essayists over four days of literary conversations. A free educational program, based on literacy and the arts, includes international and Indonesian presenters and runs concurrently over six days.
The Festival attracts participants not only from Bali, Jakarta and other big cities of Indonesia but also from neighbouring countries such as Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong and Malaysia as well as further afield from Europe and America. The Festival hopes to continue to promote tourism to Bali and Indonesia by further increasing the number of international visitors to the Festival.
The Festival offers a range of sponsorship packages offering Festival Partners and Supporters extensive entitlements and promotional opportunities. The Festival also works with individual Partners to develop tailored sponsorship packages to suit the specific goals and aims of your company or organisation.
We also welcome in-kind partnerships for a range of products and services. In particular: flights & accommodation for writers and journalists, media promotion and advertising, design and printing, catering, film and photography documentation, venues, merchandising, food and beverage supplies. There are many possibilities, so please do not hesitate to contact us if you feel you have something to offer the Festival.
The Ubud Writers & Readers Festival works to promote tourism and to foster a positive image of Bali and Indonesia abroad. The importance of this role was highlighted following the second Bali bombings in 2005.
The Festival provides a welcome boost to the morale of the Balinese people and to the local tourism industry and receives immense support from local restaurants, hotels and other businesses, which appreciate the benefits of the Festival for the local community. By joining with the Festival your company can assist in rebuilding the positive image of Bali internationally.
By supporting the Ubud Writers & Readers Festival you will benefit by strengthening the goodwill and understanding between Indonesia and your company or organisation’s country of origin. Your support of the Mudra Swari Saraswati Foundation, the non-profit, community arts organisation that hosts the Festival, will make you a leading role model in corporate social responsibility in Southeast Asia.
The positive outcomes associated with your support include the opportunity to develop new contacts and networks in the region and build new audiences and revenue streams. The positive media you will recoup from the Festival will improve your corporate image both within Indonesia and abroad. Several international organisations have already joined with the Festival and are reaping the benefits of their involvement. We hope you will join us too.
The Festival is a key part of the Saraswati Foundation’s strategy to foster an interest in reading and writing among Indonesia’s youth and improve literacy skills. The Festival offers an extensive, world-class writing and cultural program for children and has been a major sponsor of the Saraswati Foundation.
The Ubud Writers & Readers Festival also provides a platform for Indonesian and South East Asian writers to showcase their work to an international audience that includes journalists, publishers and festival directors. Many Indonesian writers have benefited from their involvement in the Festival and have gone on to present their work at other Festivals abroad. The Festival aims to become the gateway for emerging Indonesian and Southeast Asian writers to broader publishing markets.
Your company will benefit from being associated with our children’s program and activities and will have the opportunity to access our international audience and markets.
We work with your organisation to ensure that your support goes directly to the areas you want it to. We want what you want – a beneficial and sustainable relationship that increases your return on investment, promotes your corporate mission and vision and enlarges your company’s media profile.
Committing to a long-term partnership with the Ubud Writers & Readers Festival increases the impact of your sponsorship, offering you ongoing promotion, as a Festival sponsor, that builds from year-to-year. As the Festival grows and expands its market you will in turn access new audiences and consolidate your reputation as a community minded company supporting the arts in Indonesia.
