To give full expression to the creative needs of individuals and the community in order to better equip them to interact in our rapidly changing global society.
HOW WE ACHIEVE OUR GOAL :
We Provide Opportunities for the Youth of Indonesia
The Saraswati Foundation for the Arts is committed to improving the lives of Indonesia's youth, working with them to ensure that they thrive and prosper in a globalized world. Towards this end the foundation seeks to develop programs to stimulate and promote creativity and cultural expression amongst youth.
We Value Knowledge
The Foundation emphasizes the importance of education in addressing the complex and difficult challenges faced by young people. Education allows young people to take advantage of the opportunities that globalization and cross-cultural understanding provides.
We Focus on Lives and Livelihoods
The forces of globalization have their most visible impact on people's lives and livelihoods. The Foundation's considers issues relating food, health, jobs and culture not in isolation, but as factors that are inextricably intertwined in people's everyday lives.
Current and Planned Activities :
- Hosting the internationally acclaimed Ubud Writers & Readers Festival
- Sponsoring art exhibitions and performances throughout the year in Ubud
- Hosting workshops and teaching sessions of what for the benefit of youth, the local community and visitors
- Publishing and distributing cultural and educational material such as books, magazines and catalogues
- Coordinating writer's and artist's residencies for Indonesians and overseas visitors
- Organizing an annual literary award for young people
- Developing an international writers centre in Ubud
- Working with the local community to develop sustainable tourism projects
The Saraswati Foundation for the Arts sees Ubud becoming one of the most important cultural and artistic centres in Indonesia through the development of programs and events that foster an interest in literature and the arts amongst Bali's youth.
We believe learning programs that enhance cross-cultural understanding and create continuing creative partnerships in Indonesia, South-East Asia and the West, will benefit Bali's economic growth and sustainability.
The attendance in Ubud of cultural visitors from other parts of Indonesia and overseas will also greatly benefit Indonesia's regional economy and that of local businesses in Bali.
